Robert "Bob" Thomas Owens, age 72, passed away at home on February 26, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Janet Flora Owens, and his three daughters, Jennifer Sebrell (Robert), Julie Maldonado (Ovidio) and Jacqueline Lopez (John); his eight grandchildren and his brother, Michael G. Owens (Phyllis). He was born in Kansas City, MO on June 25, 1942 and moved to West Palm Beach as a child. Robert "Bob" Thomas Owens, age 72, passed away at home on February 26, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Janet Flora Owens, and his three daughters, Jennifer Sebrell (Robert), Julie Maldonado (Ovidio) and Jacqueline Lopez (John); his eight grandchildren and his brother, Michael G. Owens (Phyllis). He was born in Kansas City, MO on June 25, 1942 and moved to West Palm Beach as a child. Bob received his bachelor's degree in accounting from FAU and was a certified public accountant. He began his career as Chief Accountant for an aerospace electronic Research & Development contractor in West Palm Beach and through the years worked in finance divisions for many companies including KDI, Inc. (Cincinnati, OH) as a Controller, Rubin Construction Company and Murphy Construction Company, at both as Treasurer and Dycom Industries as CFO and VP of Finance, all in West Palm Beach. It was during his time at Rubin Construction that he began his friendship with Mr. Rubin and accepted the position of being his personal accountant. Upon Rubin's death in 1993, Bob became president and CEO of the charitable J.M. Rubin Foundation which offers college scholarships to Palm Beach County students. Bob has served on the Board of Trustees for Palm Beach Atlantic University since 2000, leading several influential committees - Executive, Planning, Development, Finance and Building. In addition to his involvement at Palm Beach Atlantic, he served on the Board of Directors for the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches for 14 years and spent many years serving the Alzheimer's Community Care as a Trustee and on various committees within their organization. He lived a full life engaging in adventurous activities such as riding motorcycles, boating, hunting, scuba diving, traveling around the world, RVing with his wife and family, and his passion, piloting airplanes and helicycles. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2015 from 6:00PM to 8:30PM at Quattlebaum Funeral, Cremation, and Event Center at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 6411 Parker Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 6, 2015 at 1:00PM at St. Therese de Lisieux Catholic Church, 11800 Lake Worth Rd, Wellington, FL.
