Harris, Richard T., 83, of Murphy, NC passed away peacefully on May 12, 2017.
A native of Queens, NY, he moved to Palm Beach County while a teenager. He graduated from Lake Worth High School in 1953. He went on to serve in the U.S. Army. After his discharge he became a police officer with the Lake Worth Police Department moving up the ranks until his retirement as the Deputy Police Chief in 1981. Harris, Richard T., 83, of Murphy, NC passed away peacefully on May 12, 2017.
A native of Queens, NY, he moved to Palm Beach County while a teenager. He graduated from Lake Worth High School in 1953. He went on to serve in the U.S. Army. After his discharge he became a police officer with the Lake Worth Police Department moving up the ranks until his retirement as the Deputy Police Chief in 1981. In retirement, he continued to work with Smith & Wesson instructing police agencies across the U.S. and internationally on the use of facial composite kits to solve cases.
He was a devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather who enjoyed golf and lived part of the year in West Palm Beach, FL and part in Murphy, NC.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Angie and two of his grandchildren Andrew and Jessica.
Surviving are his children: Richard Harris, Joseph Harris (Pamela), Linda Nickle (Richard), Mary Lucas, Elizabeth Stoddard (Steve), Thomas Harris (Kimberly); 17 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7pm to 9pm at Quattlebaum Funeral Center at 6411 Parker Ave, West Palm Beach on Friday, May 19, 2017.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to American Parkinson Disease Association or the American Cancer Society.
